Suture workshops will be held between 12-1pm and 1-2pm on the day. One half of the delegates will attend a workshop whilst the other half will break for lunch; this will then be rotated. Delegates will get to chose their workshops in order of preference at the time of booking; the sooner you book the more likely you are to get the workshop of your choice.
Basic Suture Skills
This workshop, run by surgeons, is designed to introduce you to the basics of suturing. It will introduce you to suturing equipment and the basic types of sutures used. You will also get the chance to have a go at interupted and continuous sutures.
Plastic Suture Skills
Run by a plastic surgeon, this workshop will introduce to some of the suture techniques and equipment used in plastic surgery. You will also get the chance to have a go at some of these techniques. Previous suture experience is necessary if you would like to chose this workshop.
This workshop will involve using brain lab a computerised tool for neuronavigation and Macromed a spinal instrumentation tool. Students will get the chance to have a go with the equipment and speak to a consultant neurosurgeon about what life is like as a neurosurgeon.
Surgical Skills Workshops
Orthopaedic Surgical Skills
This session, run by consultant orthopaedic surgeons and orthopaedic trainees, will be run in conjunction with one of our sponsors Stryker who supply orthopaedic equipment. In this session you will learn the basics biomechanics of fracture stabilization as well as get to try your hand at external fixation of a fractured bone.
Laparoscopic Surgical Skills
This workshop run in conjunction with one of our sponsors eosurgical who make simulation machines gives you the chance to test out your laparoscopic skills on their simulators.
