This is the perfect opportunity to hone your skills as a budding laparoscopic surgeon. We have acquired the exact tools used in operating theatres to give you that authentic feel.
Laparoscopics is the foundation of modern surgical techniques and this is training that you really can’t get anywhere else until surgical specialisation!
York Surgical Society ran a few ‘Introduction to Laparoscopy” workshops on the 7th of December with the guidance of consultant urological surgeon Mr Mustafa Hilmy and his colleague Mr Elmussareh. Students ranging from years one to four attended; gaining a knowledge of the basic principles, clinical application and potential complications of laparoscopic procedures. The advantages and disadvantages of current laparoscopic procedures were deliberated whilst leaflets were provided highlighting the various instruments and equipment used. After an in-depth discussion attendees were also given the opportunity to get hands-on training of basic laparoscopic tasks involving peg transfer, treading rope and circle cutting tasks. Not only did students practice their dexterity and psychomotor skills but also gained an appreciation of the application of minimally invasive surgery to a wide range of operations within the NHS.
