Committee Positions

 

Applications for positions in the York Surgical Society committee 2019/20 are now open. 

Applicants are limited to TWO applications.

A 250 word manifesto is required to apply.

Deadline: 12pm Friday 12th April 

 

Vice President 

  • Work with the President closely in all activities.

 

  • Assist in the organisation of events.

 

  • Host events in the absence of the President.

 

  • Attend all events.

 

  • Oversee organisation of the conference

 

  • Provide short written accounts of each event to be posted on the website.

 

  • Must have at least one rotation in the site of the society they are applying for the role within or be based at the site you are applying for.

Secretary

  • Keep minutes at all committee meetings.

 

  • Provide the webmaster with committee meeting minutes to be posted on the website and blackboard no later than one week after the meeting. 

 

  • Must have at least one rotation in the site of the society they are applying for the role within or be based at the site you are applying for.

Treasurer

  • Control the bank account (withdrawals/deposits).

 

  • Liaise/communicate with all sponsors at least twice a year to provide updates and secure sponsorship for the next year.

 

  • Produce an end of year accounts summary. 

 

  • Must have at least one rotation in the site of the society they are applying for the role within or be based at the site you are applying for.

 

Events Co-Ordinator

  • Oversee organisation of all events on campus (room bookings, communication with demonstrator/speaker, provision of refreshments etc.)

 

  • Organise at least one event for the society. 

 

  • Must have at least one rotation in the site of the society they are applying for the role within or be based at the site you are applying for.

Webmaster

  • Edit and Update the Society’s Website and Twitter accounts on a weekly basis (applicants must have a high degree of IT and written communication skill).

 

  • Be in charge of printing/distribution of Society advertisements and posters.

 

  • Oversee the Society’s Email Account and report to the committee.

 

  • Must have at least one rotation in the site of the society they are applying for the role within or be based at the site you are applying for.

Women in Surgery Representative 

  • Work to promote Women’s role in Surgery.

 

  • Liaise with the RCSEng WinS Representatives and organise at least one talk/workshop.

 

  • Be a point of contact for advice for students interested in a career in surgery 

 

  • Organise the Women in Surgery workshop for the annual surgical conference. 

 

  • Must have at least one rotation in the site of the society they are applying for the role within or be based at the site you are applying for.

Year 2 Representative

  • Promote the Society’s events heavily throughout Year 2.

 

  • Regularly consult with Year 2 students and share their opinions of the Society and its events with the committee.

 

  • Assist the society and it’s committee members whenever necessary.

 

  • Organise at least one event for the society 

 

  • Help in the organisation of the conference. 

 

  • Must be based at the site you are applying for.

Year 3 Representative

  • Promote the Society’s events heavily throughout Year 3. 

 

  • Regularly consult with many Year 3 students and share their opinions of the Society and its events with the committee.

 

  • Assist the society and it’s committee members whenever necessary.

 

  • Organise at least one event for the society 

 

  • Help in the organisation of the conference. 

 

  • Must have at least one rotation in the site of the society they are applying for the role within.

Year 4 Representative

  • Promote the Society’s events heavily throughout Year 4.

 

  • Regularly consult with Year 4 students and share their opinions of the Society and its events with the committee.
